The Brazilian Society of Research and Assistance to Craniofacial Rehabilitation (SOBRAPAR) Hospital was founded in 1979, having the initiative of Cassio Menezes Raposo do Amaral, MD, PhD, and support of Prof. John Marquis Converse, MD, PhD, at the time the president of The American Society of Facially Disfigured (today, National Foundation for Facial Reconstruction), linked to the University Medical Center of New York.

The first setting up of SOBRAPAR was based at the Hospital “Álvaro Ribeiro” that cared of the underprivileged children of Campinas and region.

From 1982 to 1990, in collaboration with Father Santi Capriotti, SOBRAPAR started to attend in the Cruzada das Senhoras Católicas.

Always counting on the enthusiasm and support of collaborators that embraced the SOBRAPAR’s cause, it was consolidated the partnership with Lateinamerika Zentrum, a Germany organization with its headquarters in Bonn. The purpose of this organization is to help beneficent institutions that attend underprivileged population in South America. Mr. Michael Mueller Habig had a decisive collaboration in the process and the necessary monetary support was sent to the construction of the Hospital.

Mr. Abraham Kasinski, president of COFAP – Company manufacturer of spare parts for vehicles, also had a fundamental contribution, donating the land next to the UNICAMP Hospital and leading a group of entrepreneurs to sponsor the construction. The Hospital was inaugurated in February 1990 and since than clinical care was started. In 1991, with the surgical center and the infirmary all equipped, the surgeries started to be performed.

The Institution is maintained by resources coming from SUS (Sistema Único de Saúde), FEAC (Federação das Entidades Assistenciais de Campinas), Ciretran, Smile Train, Lateinamerika Zentrum, donations made by physical and juridical persons. And also it counts on the permanent Bazaar, directed and maintained by a dedicated team of volunteers that collaborates unconditionally with this project.
